Currently a total of 110 technical and technical-equivalent training institutions are running in order to transform the country’s working-age youth into skilled workforces, with over 1.2 million trainees receiving skills-building training yearly.

This information was disclosed by the State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, Nurul Haque Nur, while responding to a scripted question from Anichur Rahman, MP for Madaripur-3 constituency during the second session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad on Monday.

The second sitting of the 13th JS was presided over by Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaisar Kamal.

In his question, MP Anichur Rahman sought information on the number of Technical Training Centres (TTCs) currently operating in the country to develop a workforce suitable for overseas employment.

Now, the state minister informed the parliament that under the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET), which operates under the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, there are now 104 Technical Training Centres (TTCs) and six Institutes of Marine Technology, bringing the total number of training institutions to 110.

He said these institutions offer skills development training through 55 short- and long-term employment-oriented trades and courses.

The state minister further said, more than 1.2 million trainees receive training annually through these programmes, fitting them to secure employment opportunities - both at home and abroad.

On future plans, he said the government has already undertaken initiatives to make skills development training more accessible by establishing technical training centres at upazila leves, and as part of the efforts, a project ‘Establishment of 50 Technical Training Centres in 50 Upazilas’ has been adopted. And under which Shibchar Upazila of Madaripur District has also been included, he maintained.
