The National Citizen Party (NCP) has described the proposed national budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year as extremely ambitious and unrealistic, expressing concern over the government's revenue projections and budget deficit estimates.
The party made the observation in its preliminary reaction following the presentation of the budget in Parliament on Thursday.
Atiq Mujahid, NCP joint convener, Member of Parliament from Kurigram 2 and head of the party's shadow budget committee, said the government's projected budget deficit of around Tk 2.5 lakh crore did not reflect the likely fiscal reality.
According to him, the actual deficit could rise to nearly Tk 4.5 lakh crore if revenue collection falls short of expectations.
He questioned the feasibility of the government's revenue target of Tk 6.95 lakh crore.
