Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haq Chowdhury announced that preparations are underway to swiftly repatriate two Bangladeshi nationals sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia.
He made the remarks on Monday (October 19) afternoon during an event at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, where he handed over 200 trolleys aimed at reducing luggage-handling suffering for expatriate workers.
The minister noted that the Bangladesh High Commission is actively working to bring back passengers stranded on Umrah visas, operating cautiously due to the volatile security situation in Saudi Arabia.
Reiterating the significance of the recently signed labor recruitment agreement between Bangladesh and Japan, the minister expressed optimism that the pact will be fully executed within a year. Once implemented, skilled workers will be sent to Japan, granting them extended residency periods and legal rights equivalent to those enjoyed by Japanese citizens.
