
SINGRA, NATORE, June 19: A month-long tree plantation campaign was launched in Singra Upazila of Natore on Friday with a call to expand green cover and contribute to the government's target of planting 25 crore saplings across the country.
The campaign, organised by Upazila Zia Parishad, began with the planting of saplings along the Balua-Basua Central Graveyard Road. As part of the initiative, trees will be planted in all 12 unions of the upazila over the next month.
A discussion meeting was held following the inaugural programme, where Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abdullah Al Rifat attended as the chief guest.
Among those present were Upazila BNP Member Secretary Prof Sharful Islam, former Tajpur Union chairman Shahadat Hossain, former Italy Union chairman Bazlar Rahman, former municipal councillor Mohidul Islam, former Jubo Dal President Atiqur Rahman, Upazila BNP member Rafiqul Islam Bullet, Chalan Beel Biodiversity Protection Committee President Prof Akhtaruzzaman, Zia Parishad General Secretary Assistant Prof Mizanur Rahman, Senior Vice-President Principal Nazmul Haque, Vice-President Principal Golam Mostafa, Assistant Prof Shariful Islam, Organising Secretary Lecturer Sharful Islam, Publicity Secretary Nahmadul Haque, Treasurer Shamim Hossain, Lecturer Abdullahel Kafi, Chalan Beel Biodiversity Protection Committee General Secretary Saiful Islam, and environmental activist Anik Ahmed.
