
BRAHMANBARIA, June 19: A three-day National Fruit Fair-2026 began in Brahmanbaria on Thursday morning with a view to expanding fruit cultivation, raising nutritional awareness and promoting safe food practices.
The fair, organised by the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) in Brahmanbaria, was inaugurated at the DAE premises by Deputy Commissioner Md Abu Sayeed.
Following the inauguration, the deputy commissioner visited various stalls at the fair and inquired about the production, preservation, processing and marketing of local and seasonal fruits on display. He also attended a discussion meeting and seminar held on the occasion.
Speaking as the chief guest at the discussion, the deputy commissioner said local fruit production and preservation are crucial for ensuring food and nutrition security as well as contributing to economic development and employment generation.
He stressed the need to increase the use of modern technology in fruit cultivation, ensure proper utilisation of fallow land and encourage farmers to engage in commercial fruit production. Such initiatives, he said, would strengthen the agricultural sector and open new avenues for fruit production in the country.
The seminar was chaired by DAE Brahmanbaria Deputy Director Dr Mostafa Imran Hossain, while Upazila Agriculture Officer Shahana Begum moderated the event. Additional Deputy Director (Crop) Md Moynul Hossain delivered the welcome address.
Among others present were Deputy Director of the Local Government Division Md Shariful Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner Ranjan Chandra Dey, Additional Deputy Director Nazim Uddin Khan, Additional Deputy Director Farhana Nazneen, and senior officials from the agriculture department.
