The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has prohibited carrying of weapons and setting off fireworks and firecrackers during Tazia processions to mark Holy Ashura scheduled for June 26.

A press release signed by DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed on Tuesday confirmed the matter.

It said some participants carry cleavers, scissors, knives, spears, lances, swords, and sticks, which can create unwanted situations and panic among citizens, thereby threatening public security.

This order will remain in force from start to end of Tazia processions, the press release further added.
