Five people have died from dengue in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll from the mosquito-borne disease to 18 so far this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
In its latest bulletin issued on Monday, the DGHS said two of the deceased were from Chattogram Division, while one each was from Dhaka North City Corporation, Dhaka South City Corporation and Mymensingh Division.
During the same period, 124 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country. With the latest figures, the total number of hospitalised dengue cases this year has reached 5,924.
The health bulletin also said that 100 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries this year to 5,455.
According to the DGHS, five dengue-related deaths were recorded between January and May this year, two in January, two in February and one in May. The latest fatalities have pushed the death toll for June to 13.
