Social Welfare Committee of the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) has taken a series of decisions to strengthen its social welfare activities, including a plan to raise its Social Welfare Fund to Tk 1 crore and expand benefits for members through partnerships with hospitals, airlines, hotels and other service providers.
The decisions were made at the committee’s first meeting for the 2026�"2028 term held in the capital on Thursday.
The meeting was chaired by Committee Chairman and REHAB Director ASM Abdul Gaffar Miyazi.
Committee Co-Chairman Col. Md. Mainul Haque (Retd.), Co-Chairman Alhaj M. A. Baten Chowdhury, and committee members Md. Shakiruzzaman Bhuiyan, Md. Barkat Ullah and Lion Md. Iqbal Hossain attended the meeting.
The committee adopted several important decisions aimed at strengthening REHAB’s social responsibility programmes and making member services more effective and wider in scope.
One of the major decisions was to take steps to increase the Social Welfare Fund to Tk 1 crore.
The committee also decided to sign Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with building material manufacturers, leading hospitals, diagnostic centres, airlines, airport VIP lounges, hotels and other service providers. These agreements are expected to offer REHAB members special discounts and various services.
The meeting also decided to review the condition of vehicles previously provided by REHAB for police use and assess the overall condition of the Cyclone Center.
Members agreed to inspect the one bigha of land allocated for the Social Welfare Fund and examine the feasibility of implementing public welfare projects there.
The committee also decided to monitor the condition of the beds donated by REHAB to the Burn Hospital, expand humanitarian assistance in remote and underprivileged areas, and take effective initiatives to create employment opportunities for unemployed people.
Another key decision is that the REHAB Social Welfare Committee will play an active role in providing necessary support and assistance to workers and employees of the construction sector in cases
of workplace accidents, emergency medical treatment and humanitarian crises.
Speakers said REHAB has been contributing not only to the growth of Bangladesh’s housing sector but also to social welfare and humanitarian activities.
They expressed hope the Social Welfare Committee will continue to introduce practical initiatives to improve member services, expand humanitarian assistance and make REHAB’s social welfare activities more organised and effective.
