The government has adopted a ‘strict zero-tolerance’ policy against corruption, said Social Welfare Minister Professor Dr A Z M Zahid Hossain on Saturday.
He came up with this strong message while speaking to reporters after a meeting at the district social service office in Rangpur.
“No one will be spared for being involved in corruption practices,” the minister maintained.
He added that the ministry was strictly monitoring its officials to prevent any irregularities. The government must always remain accountable to the public and parliament, he further said.
The minister also shared an important update about a new family card programme. Every family will receive this card across all upazilas within next 10 to 12 weeks.
According to him, the ministry has completely stopped the cash payment system for its service programmes, and now allowances will go directly into beneficiaries' bank accounts to remove corrupt middlemen.
Speaking on disability, the minister said about six per cent of the country's population falls into this category, adding around 4.5 million people with disabilities are currently registered with the government.
