Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has warned that Israel must not be allowed to undermine the peace agreement between the United States and Iran, saying regional support is essential for achieving lasting peace in the Middle East.
Erdogan made the remarks during a joint press conference with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Istanbul, where he accused Israel of attempting to derail peace efforts.
He said sustainable peace in the Middle East cannot be achieved without the participation and support of regional countries. "No solution can be long-lasting unless it draws strength from the goodwill and contributions of regional nations," he said.
Erdogan added that Ankara is closely monitoring what it sees as Israel's attempts to undermine the US-Iran agreement.
"The current warmongering Israeli government must not be allowed to plunge our region once again into the smell of gunpowder and blood," he said.
His remarks came after indirect talks between US and Iranian representatives in Qatar following a recent exchange of military strikes between the two countries.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said Tehran would establish a "communication channel" with Washington to report any violations of the memorandum of understanding.
Erdogan has repeatedly accused Israel of trying to weaken the US-Iran agreement.
