Relief from the recent sweltering heat is on the way as active monsoon conditions are expected to bring widespread rainfall across Bangladesh over the next five days.
The daytime temperatures likely to drop by up to three degrees Celsius, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
In its latest weather forecast on Sunday, meteorologist Dr. Md. Omar Faruk said light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds are likely over most areas of Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and at many places in Rangpur, Rajshahi and Dhaka divisions during the next 24 hours.
Moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall is also expected at isolated places in Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.
The BMD said the ongoing mild heatwave affecting Rangpur division and the districts of Rajshahi, Pabna, Naogaon, Dhaka, Kishoreganj, Tangail, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Rangamati, Chandpur, Feni, Cox's Bazar and Chuadanga is likely to subside.
Day temperatures across the country may fall by 1-3 degrees Celsius, while night temperatures may decrease slightly.
The forecast for Monday indicates similar weather conditions, with widespread rain and thunderstorms expected across the country and heavy to very heavy rainfall possible in parts of Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions. Day and night temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged.
From Tuesday (July 7) through Thursday (July 9) rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds are likely in most parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions. Isolated areas may experience moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall. Daytime temperatures may decrease slightly on Tuesday before remaining nearly unchanged on Wednesday and Thursday, while nighttime temperatures are expected to stay almost unchanged throughout the period.
