271 more hospitalized with dengue

No deaths from dengue were reported in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, although 271 new patients were admitted to hospitals across the country during the period. The number of dengue patients currently receiving treatment at hospitals nationwide stands at 448.

The information was disclosed in a bulletin issued on Sunday by the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

According to the DGHS, of the newly admitted patients, Barishal and Khulna Division recorded the highest number of infections, with 63 patients each division. Dhaka division ranked second with 45 hospital admissions, followed by Chattogram division and Dhaka South City with 30 each, Dhaka North City 27, Rajshahi 4, Mymensingh 7, and Sylhet 2.

As of July 5 this year, Bangladesh has recorded a total of 6,871 dengue cases. Of these, 767 infections were reported during the first five days of July, while June saw the highest monthly tally so far with 2,907 cases. Overall, 61.6 percent of the patients are male and 38.4 percent are female.

A total of 19 people have died from dengue this year. Among the fatalities, 52.6 percent were male and 47.4 percent were female. Meanwhile, 6,404 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals.

Meanwhile about the dengue preparation, Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain said the government has been preparing for the dengue season over the past two months. Physicians at upazila hospitals have received training on dengue case management, while cleanliness drives, mosquito larvicide distribution and anti-mosquito spraying operations are continuing.

Speaking at the inauguration of the 500-bed second unit of the National Institute of Neurosciences Hospital on Sunday, he further said that no dengue patient would be discharged from hospital until fully recovered. Security measures have also been strengthened to prevent patients from leaving before completing treatment. In addition, mobile hospitals have been kept ready to provide services if needed.

Bangladesh has experienced severe dengue outbreaks in recent years. In 2023, the country recorded 321,179 cases and 1,705 deaths. In 2024, infections stood at 101,214 with 575 deaths, while in 2025 there were 102,861 cases and 413 fatalities.
