Government has placed 33 senior police officers, including Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), Additional DIGs and one Superintendent of Police, on compulsory retirement in the public interest.

Separate notifications issued on Sunday by the Police-1 Branch of the Public Security Division under the Ministry of Home Affairs said the action was taken under Section 45 of the Government Service Act, 2018 with immediate effect, and the retired officers will receive all retirement benefits in accordance with existing rules.

Most of the officers belong to the 20th Bangladesh Police batch and were serving in various police ranges, specialised units and training institutions. Yet, the notifications did not specify any individual reasons for the retirements beyond citing the ‘public interest’.
