The United States has launched a new round of strikes on Iran, with explosions reported on Qeshm Island and other areas early Wednesday (July 8).
Iran’s state-run Press TV reported fresh explosions on Qeshm Island, while blasts were also heard on Kharg Island in the Strait of Hormuz. Earlier, explosions were reported in Sirik and on Qeshm Island.
Shortly afterward, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it had resumed military operations against Iran.
CENTCOM said the strikes were launched in response to Iran’s alleged attack on three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday. It said Iranian infrastructure linked to the attacks was being targeted.
The command described the reported attack on commercial ships as dangerous and a clear violation of the ceasefire, adding that such actions were unacceptable.
