Netanyahu backs Argentina in World Cup 2026 because of Milei, not Messi

Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu said he is rooting for Argentina to win the FIFA World Cup 2026 not because of Messi, but for Argentine President Javier Milei.

Benjamin Netanyahu appeared on The Mojo Podcast - hosted by Israeli comedian Ben Ben Baruch and delivered the statement. He added backing Argentina is mainly linked to his friendship with the President.

When asked if Messi was the reason behind his support, he stated, ‘No, before Messi, Milei.’

Israeli Prime Minister highly praised Milei, describing him as a ‘superstar’ and a dear friend of Israel. He also highlighted Milei’s support for a free-market economy and his strong ties with Israel.

The remarks have drawn public attention as they linked the current World Cup with the diplomatic relationship between Argentina and Israel.

Argentina entered the 2026 World Cup as the defending champions and is one of the tournament favorites. The Argentine team continues to attract global attention with Messi leading as captain.

However, Netanyahu’s comments focused more on Argentina’s president than its football stars. He said his support for the team was influenced by his admiration for Milei and the relationship between the two countries.
