Brazil recorded zero crude oil exports directly to Israel in the year 2025. This is a milestone that activists are hailing as a crucial triumph for the Israel boycott movement.
This data was confirmed in 2026 statistical yearbook, published by the National Patroleum Agency (ANP). The Middle Easy Eye has confirmed the news.
The Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement credited this shift to sustained public pressure exerted on the Brazilian government and national corporations.
In a statement posted on social media, the movement noted, ‘We welcome the end of direct exports as a concrete step to reduce complicity, and as a sign that grassroots and trade union pressure can force Brazil to recognize its international obligations.’
Yet a question remains. Direct routes have been effectively closed, however, indirect sales through third-party countries is being continued. Regarding this, the group stated, ‘One step at a time.’
The decline in direct trade follows a period of heightened geopolitical friction. According to reports from the campaign group Oil Change International, Brazil was the fifth-largest crude supplier to Israel until mid-2024, contributing nine percent of the nation's imports.
By the end of 2024, despite President Lula’s vocal condemnation of Israel’s military actions which led to his declaration as ‘persona non grata’ by Tel Aviv, Brazil had ironically become the fourth-largest exporter to the country.
State-owned oil giant Petrobras has consistently maintained that it does not deliver shipments directly to Israel, arguing that its sales are made to international refineries with no control over the final destination of the refined products.
In May 2025, Brazil’s major oil worker federations formally petitioned the government to implement a total oil embargo. Although they received no official response, the government has taken significant diplomatic steps, including recalling its ambassador to Israel and formally supporting South Africa’s genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice.
