The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has announced a budget of Tk 4,527.74 crore for the fiscal year 2026-27.
Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan announced the budget at a press conference held at the DNCC conference room on Thursday afternoon.
The total budget of DNCC for the 2025-26 fiscal year was Tk 6,699.5 million. The total budget for the current fiscal year has been estimated at Tk 4,527.74 million, which is Tk 1,542.2 million less than last year.
Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan summarized the budget's income and expenditure and said, "The proposed budget for the new fiscal year is Tk 4,527 crore. Of this, the initial balance deposit is Tk 660 crore, revenue income is Tk 2,531 crore, aid and grants in the recurrent sector are Tk 215 crore, government development grants are Tk 150 crore, and income from government and foreign aided projects is Tk 965 crore."
'The expenditure includes - revenue expenditure of Tk 1,770 crore, development expenditure from own sources of Tk 1,966 crore, development expenditure with government development assistance of Tk 830 crore, development expenditure on government and foreign aided projects of Tk 965 crore, other expenditure of Tk 700 crore and closing balance of Tk 427 crore.'
The administrator also informed that the new budget has estimated revenue income at Tk 2,531 crore and development expenditure from own sources at Tk 1,966 crore.
The administrator said that in the current fiscal year, a timely, realistic and development-oriented budget has been formulated, keeping in mind the development of the city residents, revenue collection and implementation capacity.
He said that after assuming office four months ago, DNCC has implemented various activities for urban development with a limited budget with the overall support of the current government. These include road construction and renovation, waterlogging relief, strengthening cleanliness activities, dengue control, successful implementation of measles vaccination program, prompt removal of sacrificial waste, improvement of waste management through Aminbazar landfill, and taking quick and effective measures to deal with waterlogging caused by recent heavy rains.
He further said that various service activities are being carried out, including raising public awareness on the prompt removal of household waste, clearing illegal footpaths through mobile courts, strengthening canal rescue and cleaning activities, tree plantation under the 'Clean Dhaka, Green Dhaka' program, and distribution of educational and sports materials to students.
The administrator said that the budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 has been prepared keeping in mind the slogan 'Clean Dhaka, Green Dhaka' announced by the Prime Minister. In this budget, priority has been given to initiatives to control mosquito-borne diseases including dengue, prevent waterlogging, repair damaged roads, modernize drain and manhole systems, remove waste quickly, expand and modernize Aminbazar landfill, implement a waste-to-energy project, install modern street lights, modernize markets and markets, realistic plans for hawkers, develop slum dwellers, modernize Qurbani Haat, develop Gabtoli and Mohakhali bus terminals, and maintain normal water flow through canal renovation.
He said, this realistic budget has been formulated to build a developed, planned and modern livable city.
The administrator said that not all activities in Dhaka city are under the sole purview of the City Corporation; the Capital Development Authority (RAJUK), Dhaka WASA and the Public Works Department (PWD) are involved in this work. DNCC is working to make Dhaka North free from waterlogging through coordination with the relevant agencies.
He said, "It is not possible to build a clean, dengue-free and waterlogged city without the cooperation and awareness of the citizens. If the city dwellers are aware, it will be easier to achieve the desired goal. DNCC is engaged in the service of the city dwellers 24 hours a day."
The DNCC Chief Executive Officer, Chief Engineer, Chief Revenue Officer and senior officials from various departments were present at the press conference.
