DNCC, Gulshan Society launch month-long dengue awareness programme

With dengue cases continuing to pose a major public health threat during the monsoon season, the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Gulshan Society on Friday launched a month-long dengue awareness and prevention campaign aimed at increasing public awareness and encouraging community participation.

The programme was inaugurated at Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed Park in Gulshan.

As part of the campaign, awareness activities will be conducted at educational institutions, mosques, residential neighbourhoods and slum areas. Banners, posters and leaflets will also be distributed to educate residents on dengue prevention.

Speaking at the inauguration, Gulshan Society President Barrister Omar Sadat said that while mosquitoes exist around the world, the number of dengue-related deaths in Bangladesh remains alarmingly high.

'Approximately 2,700 people have died from dengue over the past three years due to ignorance and negligence. This is deeply worrying and unfortunate,' he said.

He stressed that these deaths are largely preventable through greater public awareness and responsible behaviour.

Barrister Sadat also noted that mosquito control and dengue prevention should not be treated as seasonal efforts but as year-round responsibilities. He said Gulshan Society would continue its awareness and prevention initiatives throughout the year.

Gulshan Society Secretary General Mujibur Rahman Mridha, Vice President Abdul Majed, DNCC officials and employees, and local residents from different walks of life attended the programme.
