Spain engraved their name into football history with a victory over Argentina in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final at the New Jersey stadium behind an unprecedented defensive display. They conceded only one goal in the entire tournament, claiming the spot of lowest goal conceded World Champions throughout the history. Vangurd reported.

Guided by manager Luis de la Fuente, La Roja (Nickname of the Spanish football team) allowed just a single goal across seven matches throughout the tournament. The feat makes Spain the first nation to win a World Cup while conceding only one goal.

Spain’s defensive backline shut down Messi’s Argentina in the final, securing their sixth clean sheet of the campaign. The team’s sole defensive breach materialized against Belgium during the quarter-finals, where they won by 2-1.

This victory delivered Spain their second World Cup title with massive contribution from the goalkeeper Unai Simón’s extraordinary form. He established a new record by going 650 consecutive minutes without conceding any goal, before Belgium broke the streak.

Following the final whistle, Spanish players Marc Cucurella and Martin Zubimendi celebrated near a defeated Messi, marking the end of a historic tournament.
