8-hr gas outage in parts of Dhaka today

Gas supply will remain suspended for eight hours in several areas of Dhaka on Tuesday, according to a notice issued by Titas Gas.

The supply will remain shut from 12:00pm to 8:00pm in the Free School Street, Bhuter Goli, Kitchen Road, Al Amin Road and Kathalbagan areas.

The suspension will affect both residential and commercial consumers.

Titas Gas said the disruption is necessary to replace old leaking distribution pipelines and service lines in the Free School Street, Hatirpool, Pukurpar and Dhanmondi areas.

The company also warned that consumers in surrounding areas may experience low gas pressure during the maintenance work.

In the notice issued on Monday, Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited apologised for the temporary inconvenience and sought customers' cooperation during the scheduled maintenance.

The area under Titas has a daily demand of about 2 billion cubic feet of gas. In contrast, the supply has fallen below 150 million cubic feet in the last few days.

Accordingly, about 500 million cubic feet of gas is available daily compared to the demand.

Due to this supply shortage, gas pressure has decreased in Gazipur and Narayanganj, in addition to Dhaka. Titas officials said that the crisis is relatively greater since Dhaka is at the end of the transmission and distribution system.
