
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has expelled Satkhira-4 Member of Parliament Gazi Nazrul Islam over scandal after an internal investigation found allegations of moral misconduct against him to be substantiated. The party also decided to immediately notify the Election Commission (EC) of the disciplinary action requesting the EC to take necessary action against him.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the party's Central Executive Council held on Wednesday afternoon at the official residence of the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament at Minto Road in the capital. The meeting was chaired by Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman.
According to a party statement, the organisational inquiry was launched following media reports concerning Gazi Nazrul Islam. Jamaat Assistant Secretary General and party spokesperson Maulana Abdul Halim said the investigation had been conducted in full compliance with the organisation's rules and procedures.
The party carried out an internal inquiry into the allegations. As the investigation established the allegations of moral misconduct, the party decided to expel him, he said.
