Syndicate allegations surface over Atif Aslam's Dhaka press conference

Popular Pakistani singer Atif Aslam has arrived in Dhaka again to perform in a concert. Later on Thursday afternoon, he attended a press conference. However, serious allegations have been raised surrounding this press event.

It is reported that the organizing entity, 'Mainstage Incorporate', prioritized YouTubers over mainstream media outlets. Furthermore, allegations have surfaced that the press conference was ‘sold off’ and linked to a ‘syndicate.’

Videos of Atif Aslam's press conference were seen on the social media pages of various media outlets. Among them were only a handful of electronic, online, and print media organizations.

However, several viral videos show a section of mainstream journalists facing obstacles while trying to enter the press conference. They alleged that despite being barred from entering under the pretext of a specific list, many YouTubers were easily escorted inside right past them.

Even though YouTubers were allowed to broadcast the event live using mobile phones, professional camera persons from mainstream media were denied entry.

Victim journalists stated that they tried to contact the responsible officials of the organizing committee multiple times via phone calls and text messages, but received no response. Journalists raised strong questions and expressed anger over why such ‘hide-and-seek’ tactics were used against them, despite using mainstream media as part of their publicity.

Journalists further alleged that Atif Aslam's press conference fell into the hands of a powerful syndicate. Allegations have been made that YouTubers were allowed inside in exchange for money, effectively ‘selling’ the entire press meet. Media personnel present there termed this incident a "shameful precedent" for Bangladesh's entertainment industry.

Moreover, serious allegations have been raised against Anand Chowdhury, the event in-charge and one of the key organizers. It is learned that Anand Chowdhury was previously accused of embezzling money from audiences through an organization named Assen Communication. Now, they are organizing this concert under a new identity, 'Mainstage Incorporate,' raising fresh fears of fraud among the public.

Following these serious allegations, multiple attempts were made to contact Anand Chowdhury separately by phone, but his mobile number was found switched off. Several officials of 'Mainstage Incorporate' were also contacted, but none of them could be reached.
