Acting President Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram is set to formally begin his duties at Bangabhaban on Tuesday, with his first official office scheduled after arriving at the presidential residence at noon.
Hafiz Uddin assumed the role of acting president after former President Md Shahabuddin resigned on July 24, ending his tenure after three years and three months despite being elected to a five-year constitutional term. The government issued a notification the same day appointing the National Assembly speaker as acting president.
On Sunday, Hafiz Uddin paid tribute to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War by placing a wreath at the National Memorial in Savar and signing the visitors’ book. Senior military and civilian officials, including the chiefs of the armed forces, attended the ceremony.
He later paid his respects at the graves of former President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia at Zia Udyan in the capital.
