Ex-president Shahabuddin visits Dhaka’s 300 Feet area after stepping down

Former president Md. Shahabuddin visited the 300 Feet area in Bhatara, Dhaka, on Monday evening, a day after resigning from office.

According to a message shared by the authorities, Shahabuddin left his residence in Gulshan at around 7:57 pm under the security arrangements of the Special Security Force (SSF). He reportedly spent some time in the area before returning.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Bank has said it will not launch a separate investigation specifically targeting the former president over allegations of financial irregularities.

Bangladesh Bank spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan said Shahabuddin had served in the country’s highest constitutional office and that the central bank had no plan to initiate an inquiry solely against him.

However, he added that investigations into alleged irregularities at banks and financial institutions are continuing as part of ongoing financial sector reforms. If evidence implicating Shahabuddin or any other individual emerges during those institution-based investigations, the authorities will take appropriate legal action in accordance with existing laws and regulations.
