Price of 12kg LPG cylinder rises by Tk 70 to Tk 1,598

Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has increased the retail price of a 12kg liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder by Tk 70 or a 4.6 percent increase from the previous month on Sunday.

According to the announcement of BERC, the price of a 12kg LPG cylinder would stand at 1,598 for August, up from Tk 1,528 in July, following a sharp Tk 357 reduction in last month.

The revised price for privately marketed LPG will come into effect from 6:00pm Sunday, the announcement said. BERC said the price was revised under its monthly pricing mechanism after taking into account changes in international LPG prices, shipping costs, exchange rates and other import-related expenses.

The regulator has also revised the prices of LPG cylinders of other sizes. A 5.5kg cylinder will now cost Tk 732, while a 15kg cylinder will be priced at Tk 1,997.

The price of autogas (the LPG used in vehicles) has also been increased to Tk 73.67 per litre from Tk 70.40 per litre last month.

BERC directed LPG operators, distributors and retailers not to charge more than the approved prices, warning that legal action would be taken against anyone found violating the order.
