COX’S BAZAR, Aug 28: Two young men were killed in separate incidents following a dispute at a hotel bar in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday, police sources said.
Md Rashed, a resident of Nuniarchar, was stabbed inside the Renaissance Hotel bar around 11:30pm after an argument among several people.
Police said a man called from outside arrived carrying a knife and stabbed Rashed as he was leaving the bar. His identity has not yet been confirmed.
Later, people from Rashed’s side allegedly attacked a group outside the hotel. Md Solaiman Salman, a resident of the BGB Camp area, was beaten and later rescued in critical condition from Fisharighat. He died while being taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
Police are examining CCTV footage and investigating the cause of the initial dispute and whether the two groups had a prior conflict.
No case had been filed by Friday afternoon. Police said a case could be filed after the victims' funeral prayers.
The incident has also raised questions about security and permit checks at the hotel bar. Police said they received information that some people without permits were inside, while a bar employee claimed permits were checked at the entrance.
