Israeli attacks kill 19 in Gaza despite Trump’s peace initiative

At least 19 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip on Sunday, hours after US President Donald Trump announced a new initiative aimed at restoring peace in the territory, according to Palestinian health officials.

Among the dead were a couple and their five-year-old son, who were killed when an airstrike hit a residential building in Gaza City, medical sources at Al-Shifa Hospital said.

Elsewhere, three members of the Al-Hams family were killed in Khan Younis, while several others died in separate strikes in Deir al-Balah, Jabalia, Al-Mawasi and Gaza City. Dozens of people were also reported injured, reports Al Jazeera. 

Palestinian health officials described Sunday’s bombardment as one of the deadliest in recent weeks.

The strikes came a day after an attack reportedly damaged medicine storage facilities at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah. Gaza health authorities said the destruction of medical supplies had further worsened the humanitarian situation.

Israel had not immediately commented on the latest strikes.
