Green chili prices to ease within 2-5 days

Green chili prices are expected to return to tolerable levels within the next 2-5 days as the government has decided to import chillies to give the market supply a much-needed boost, said the Agriculture Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid.

Once the import of green chilies begin, the prices will go down in the next two to five days, Minister said.

While inspecting the capital’s Shantinagar kitchen market, minister remarked that as the government has allowed the import of green chilies, existing import duties will be reduced to bring down prices. 

The minster visited the market alongside the Commerce Minister, Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md. Abdus Salam,and State Minister for Food Md. Abdul Bari, assessing the supply and the overall situation regarding essential commodities. 

As part of the governmental efforts to keep the market stable, he spoke with the local traders and monitored the availability and price of key food items. Government would continue to take measures needed to keep essential commodities affordable for the consumers, he commented. 

The minister urged the media to present objective reports on the market situation to create public awareness, and discourage unscrupulous traders to create artificial shortages or manipulate prices, while also expressing optimism that the government’s latest measures would help the stabilization of the green chili market and provide financial relief for consumers soon.
