A Dhaka court on Thursday ordered model Simu Akter Brishti, also known as Misty Subash, to be shown arrested in an attempted murder case linked to the July 2024 anti-discrimination student movement.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Tajul Islam Sohag passed the order following a petition filed by the investigation officer of Ashulia Police Station.
Police said Misty Subash, who is already in jail in another case filed with Ashulia Police Station, was found to have allegedly played a direct and indirect supporting role in the shooting during the student protests at Baipail in July-August 2024. Investigators argued that showing her arrested was necessary for a fair investigation.
According to the case, complainant Ruhul Amin was shot in the left ankle while participating in a procession supporting the anti-discrimination movement at Baipail intersection on August 5, 2024. After undergoing prolonged medical treatment, he filed the attempted murder case on October 3, naming 53 accused.
Misty Subash drew public attention on March 26 this year after she was detained at the National Martyrs' Memorial in Savar while participating in a procession where slogans including "Joy Bangla" and "Joy Bangabandhu" were chanted alongside portraits of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
