India HC warns BD applicants against fake visa officials

The Indian High Commission in Dhaka has warned the public about fraudsters impersonating its officials to offer visas and other consular services in exchange for money.

In a public advisory posted on its official Facebook page on Thursday, the High Commission said it had received complaints that scammers were contacting individuals while claiming to represent the High Commission and making false promises of securing visas or other consular services for payment.

The High Commission clarified that its officials never contact applicants by phone, WhatsApp, social media or email to offer visas or demand money.

It also said all visa applications are processed strictly in accordance with the prescribed procedures.

The mission urged anyone receiving such calls, messages or offers not to make any payment or share personal or financial information.

It requested victims or recipients of such fraudulent communications to immediately report the incident to the High Commission by emailing [email protected], along with the caller's phone number, screenshots and any other relevant information.

The High Commission also urged the public to remain vigilant and help raise awareness to prevent others from falling victim to such scams.
