Journo alleges police torture over video

Global Television journalist Bulbul Hossain has filed a written complaint on Thursday with the DMP Commissioner, alleging that he was brutally assaulted by police officers after recording a video of police, allegedly beating a female pedestrian in Dhaka.
According to the complaint, the incident occurred at the capital's Bijoy Sarani intersection, where a three-way argument broke out among police officers, a motorcyclist and a female pedestrian.
Bulbul, who was present at the scene, began recording the incident as part of his professional duty after police allegedly assaulted the woman.
He alleged that around 20-25 police personnel became furious and forcibly push him into a police van.
Inside the van, officers repeatedly questioned him about why he had recorded the incident and pressured him to delete the video. When he refused, they allegedly assault him physically.
Bulbul claimed the officers threw him onto the floor of the van and beat him repeatedly. He further alleged that they struck him on the head and pressed a foot against his chest, causing serious injuries.
Eyewitness at the scene later intervened and helped rescue the victim from the police van. After that, he was immediately rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.
The alleged assault on a journalist while carrying out his professional duties has sparked strong condemnation. Seeking a fair investigation and exemplary punishment for those responsible.
