A total of 349 Members of Parliament (MPs) of the 350-member 13th Jatiya Sangsad (JS), including lawmakers from the reserved seats, have been listed to vote in the forthcoming 23rd Presidential Election on August 20.
This information was published in the Election Commission's (EC) gazetted voter list.
The voter list also includes Satkhira-4 MP Gazi Nazrul Islam, who was expelled by Jamaat-e-Islami.
The EC published the voter list in a gazette on Thursday night after receiving information from the JS Secretariat. The EC also announced the election schedule the same day.
According to the gazette, the voter list contains 349 MPs. Of them, 299 are from general seats and 50 are from reserved seats. The Chattogram-4 seat is not on the list after the Supreme Court cancelled the election of BNP leader Mohammad Aslam Chowdhury over a loan default case.
EC officials said Gazi Nazrul Islam is still an MP because the Speaker has not yet decided on the complaint filed by Jamaat-e-Islami. As a result, he remains eligible to vote under the law.
Nomination papers will be submitted on August 13, while scrutiny will take place on August 16. The last date for withdrawal is August 18. Voting is scheduled for August 20 from 2pm pm to 5pm in the Parliament Chamber. If there is only one candidate, the election will be uncontested. Former President Mohammed Shahabuddin resigned on July 24, and Speaker Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed is now serving as the Acting President.
