
Leaders and activists of the BNP and its associate bodies across greater Chattogram are making extensive preparations to welcome Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman during his visit to the region on Sunday.
The daylong tour will be his first official visit to Chattogram since assuming office on February 17. During the visit, the Prime Minister is scheduled to travel from Matarbari in Maheshkhali, Cox's Bazar, to different parts of Chattogram, including Banshkhali, Fatikchhari and Hathazari.
According to the schedule, Tarique Rahman is expected to arrive in Maheshkhali at 9:00 am. He will inspect the operations of the Matarbari Deep Sea Port, the Coal-fired Power Project and the Maheshkhali Integrated Development Authority (MIDA). Besides the local administration, BNP leaders and activists have arranged a warm reception for the Prime Minister.
After completing his visit to Maheshkhali, Tarique Rahman will travel by helicopter to Baharchhara beach in Banshkhali, where he will attend a government programme for the rehabilitation of recent flood victims at 12:00 noon. He will distribute relief materials and hand over the keys to newly built houses to 100 homeless families.
At 1:00 pm, the Prime Minister is scheduled to visit Fatikchhari. He will first pay a courtesy call on Hefazat-e-Islam Ameer Allama Shah Muhibullah Babunagari at Al Jamiatul Islamia Azizul Ulum Babunagar Madrasa. He will then visit Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Mainul Islam Madrasa in Hathazari to pay respects at the grave of late Allama Shah Ahmed Shafi.
Following a short break at the Jilla Parishad Dak Bungalow, the Prime Minister will attend another government programme at the Government College ground in Hathazari for flood rehabilitation. According to BNP sources, he will provide grants of Tk 1 lakh each to 30 flood-affected families to help rebuild their homes on behalf of local MP and State Minister for Land Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin.
He is also scheduled to distribute Tk 10,000 each to 15 persons with disabilities as a goodwill gesture before attending the BNP organisational meeting at the Radisson Blu Hotel later in the evening. The Prime Minister is expected to leave Chattogram for Dhaka at 9:20 pm.
