Minister mourns deaths of Bangladeshi workers in Saudi Arabia

Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of Bangladeshi migrant workers in a fire at a sofa factory in Saudi Arabia.


In a condolence message on Sunday, the minister said the deaths of the Bangladeshi workers, who had been working in Saudi Arabia to earn a livelihood, were deeply tragic.


He conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families, saying the contributions of migrant workers to the country’s economy are immense.


The minister said the Bangladesh Embassy in Saudi Arabia is maintaining regular communication with the accident site and local authorities.


He also said officials concerned have been instructed to take necessary steps to bring the bodies back to Bangladesh as soon as possible and ensure all necessary government assistance and compensation for the victims’ families.


The minister prayed for the eternal peace of the deceased and for strength for their families to bear the loss.
