Two killed as covered van hits vehicles in Moghbazar

Two people were killed and several others injured after a covered van lost control and rammed several vehicles in the capital’s Moghbazar area on Sunday night.

The accident occurred in front of Grand Shopping Complex under Ramna Model Police Station, when the speeding covered van hit a motorcycle, a pickup van and several other vehicles.

The deceased were identified as Riyad Hossain, 22, and Zaman Ahmed, 42. Both were from Madhurgati Fakirpara village in Narail Sadar upazila.

According to local sources, several people sustained serious injuries in the crash and were taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Doctors declared Riyad and Zaman dead at around 12:30am while they were undergoing treatment.

An injured man, Ripon, 40, is receiving treatment at DMCH and his condition was reported to be critical.

Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, confirmed the deaths, saying the two men were brought to the hospital in critical condition and were later declared dead by doctors.

The bodies have been kept at the DMCH morgue for autopsies.
