‘No issue cannot be resolved through dialogue’: Indian High Commissioner

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi has expressed optimism that Bangladesh-India relations will improve further in the coming days.

He made the remarks while speaking to reporters after a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday.

Describing the meeting as “very good”, Trivedi said both sides wanted to move forward and resolve outstanding issues through dialogue.

“Problems will exist in a democracy. Bangladesh will have its issues and India will have its issues, but the people of both countries share one common interest"to have good relations,” he said.

“We do not only share a border; we share dreams,” the high commissioner added.

Trivedi said he was confident that the two countries could resolve their differences through discussion and find “win-win” solutions.

He also said the people of both countries wanted stronger bilateral ties and noted that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had stressed the importance of maintaining good relations with Bangladesh.

Calling the meeting one between two public representatives, Trivedi said he was pleased to meet Tarique Rahman and felt comfortable despite it being their first meeting.

“We had a very good discussion. We want to move forward,” he said.
