BGMEA, BEZIA to work jointly to boost investment in economic zones

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Bangladesh Economic Zones Investors Association (BEZIA) have decided to work jointly to accelerate new investment in economic zones and address investors’ infrastructure and policy-related challenges.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting between the two organisations at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, Dhaka, on Monday (August 10). 

The BEZIA delegation was led by its President M A Jabbar, while BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan led the association’s side. Senior leaders and relevant officials from both organisations attended the meeting.

The meeting discussed the current progress of plots allocated in five government economic zones selected for full-scale implementation as part of the government’s short-term priorities, as well as various policy barriers facing investors.

BEZIA President M A Jabbar said many entrepreneurs had paid substantial amounts for plots, but delays in ensuring infrastructure and utility services had created uncertainty among investors. 

He stressed the need to urgently resolve shortages of uninterrupted gas and water required for industrial operations.
