Fakhrul, Oli file presidential nominations

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Thursday submitted the nomination paper of Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the party’s former Secretary General, for the country’s 23rd presidential election.
A BNP team handed over the nomination papers to Chief Election Commi-ssioner AMM Nasir Uddin at the Election Commission building at around 2:30pm.
Mirza Fakhrul was proposed as a presidential candidate by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General and Prime Minister's Adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, BNP Standing Committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, and National Parliament Whip Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu. Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy seconded his nomination.
The BNP delegation that submitted the papers included Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Whip Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu, Joint Secretary General and Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, Joint Secretary General Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, and Assistant Organising Secretary Abdus Salam Pintu, among others.
Meanwhile, former army officer and Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Chairman Dr Col (retd) Oli Ahmed also submitted his nomination papers for president on Thursday as the candidate of an 11-party alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami.
Hamidur Rahman Azad, coordinator of the alliance and Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami, submitted Oli Ahmed's nomination papers to the Election Commission.
Jamaat Ameer and Dhaka-15 lawmaker Dr Shafiqur Rahman proposed Oli Ahmed's candidature, while Abdullah Al Amin, an NCP leader and lawmaker from Narayanganj-4, seconded it.
