Death toll from toxic gas leak at Sitakunda shipyard rises to 8

The death toll from toxic gas leakage at a shipbreaking yard in Chattogram's Sitakunda rose to eight.
The incident occurred early Friday while the workers were carrying out housekeeping work aboard a ship at the yard.
After receiving the news, firefighters rushed to the site and entered the tank, where they recovered the bodies of three workers.
The injured workers were rescued and taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where five more succumbed to their injuries.
The death toll from the incident has now risen to eight.
Sitakunda Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Fakhrul Islam confirmed the incident.
Ferdous Steel Shipyard Managing Director Ferdous Wahid said three workers died at the scene, while several others were injured. Five more died after the injured workers were taken to hospital.
Chattogram Medical College and Hospital police outpost in-charge Nurul Alam said six people were brought to the hospital from the shipyard. Of them, five were declared dead by doctors on duty.
Superintendent of Chattogram Police Mahmuda Begum said eight people died after toxic gas spread at the shipyard.
Eight workers have died after toxic gas spread from a tank at the Ferdous Steel Shipbreaking Yard in Sitakunda, Chattogram. Several others were also injured in the incident.
Md Mohiuddin, brother-in-law of one of the dead, identified only as Mansur, said he had rushed to the hospital on hearing the news, and that no one from the yard's management had yet come forward.
He said Mansur and his brother, Md Nasir, both residents of Bhatiari, had died in the incident.
