India invites Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman for bilateral visit

‎India has formally invited Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to visit the country for a bilateral engagement, Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Friday.

‎Responding to a question at the ministry’s weekly media briefing in New Delhi, Jaiswal said the invitation had already been conveyed to the Bangladeshi prime minister. He added that India had also invited Tarique Rahman to attend the outreach session of the BRICS Summit.

‎“We have invited the Prime Minister of Bangladesh for a bilateral visit. In addition, an invitation has also been extended to him to visit India to participate in the outreach session of the BRICS Summit,” Jaiswal said.

‎He said the invitations had already been delivered and that any further developments regarding the proposed visits would be communicated later.

‎India considers additional fuel supply
‎
‎Meanwhile, India said it was positively considering Bangladesh’s request for additional fuel supplies amid the country’s ongoing energy crisis.
‎
‎Asked about Bangladesh’s fuel situation and its request for increased supplies, Jaiswal said India already has an existing agreement with Bangladesh for the supply of diesel, which remains in effect.
‎
‎“As you know, we have an ongoing agreement with Bangladesh for the supply of diesel, which continues. As for the request for additional supplies, it will be reviewed keeping in mind India’s domestic demand, refining capacity and overall availability of diesel in the country,” he said.

‎The comments came amid growing concerns over fuel availability in Bangladesh and Dhaka’s efforts to secure additional supplies from India.
