Two killed in bus-truck collision in Gazipur

Two people were killed and three others injured after a passenger bus collided with a truck carrying cattle in Kaliakair, Gazipur, on Saturday.

The accident occurred around 5:30pm in the Goalbathaan area on the Dhaka-Tangail highway.

Police and witnesses said a Shyamoli Paribahan bus collided with the cattle-laden truck on the Dhaka-bound lane. The front of the truck was badly damaged in the collision.

On receiving information, police and firefighters recovered two bodies from inside the truck and rescued three injured people, who were taken to hospital. The identities of the deceased could not immediately be confirmed.

Five cattle died at the scene, while four others were slaughtered by locals after sustaining critical injuries.

Mohammad Abu Zafar, officer-in-charge of Naojor Highway Police Station under Gazipur Region, confirmed the incident, saying both vehicles had been seized and legal proceedings were underway.
