Khaleda Zia fought for democracy throughout her life: BOU VC

Bangladesh Open University (BOU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan has said BNP Chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia fought throughout her life to establish democracy and became known to people as a mother figure.

He made the remarks while addressing a prayer session at the university on Saturday marking Khaleda Zia’s 82nd birthday.

The vice-chancellor said Khaleda Zia played an important role in establishing BOU. In 1992, she took the initiative to establish the university to bring higher education opportunities to marginalised and disadvantaged people across the country.

He said it was the moral responsibility of people to remember those who contributed to the struggle for democracy and people’s rights.

The programme ended with special prayers for Khaleda Zia’s departed soul and for peace, prosperity and welfare of the country and its people.

Teachers, officials and employees of the university attended the programme.
