Tarique Rahman will not visit India without favorable environment

Bangladesh has urged India to create a favorable atmosphere before Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visits the neighboring country.
Dhaka expects New Delhi to extradite former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was sentenced to death for crimes against humanity, under the bilateral extradition treaty, along with the suspected killers of Inqilab Mancha Convener Osman Hadi.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson AKM Shahidul Karim stated the government's position on the Prime Minister's proposed India visit during a brief press briefing at the ministry on Sunday.
The spokesperson said officials from Bangladesh and India have been communicating over the past few weeks regarding a potential bilateral visit by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to India. However, the process was disrupted after Sheikh Hasina, convicted by the International Crimes Tribunal for crimes against humanity, publicly interacted in New Delhi recently.
"We have made our position clear on this matter. We believe a favorable environment needs to be created for this visit. To this end, we have requested the Indian authorities to act swiftly on our request for the extradition of Sheikh Hasina and other fugitives," Shahidul Karim said.
He added, "According to our bilateral extradition treaty, the accused killers of Shaheed Osman Hadi must be handed over to Bangladesh. We are waiting for their response."
The spokesperson reiterated, "We reaffirm that we will continue to follow the 'Bangladesh First' policy in developing friendly bilateral relations with our neighbors and other countries based on sovereign equality, national dignity, non-interference in each other's internal affairs, and mutual benefit."
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to attend the outreach session of the BRICS summit in New Delhi next September. India also invited him for a bilateral visit.
Uncertainty arose over the Prime Minister's participation in the BRICS summit after Sheikh Hasina was permitted to deliver a speech in Delhi recently. However, subsequent diplomatic engagements between Dhaka and Delhi initiated discussions regarding the bilateral visit.
