Ex-Chief Justice Khairul Haque released on bail from prison

Former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque was released from prison after securing bail in multiple cases.

He walked out of the Special Jail in Keraniganj on Wednesday. Officials from the Department of Prisons confirmed the matter.

Khairul Haque granted interim bail from the High Court on August 10 in a case involving attempted murder and explosives charges filed with Banani Police Station. Previously, after obtaining bail in eight separate cases, the investigating officer petitioned the court on July 2 to arrest him in connection with the Banani incident. The court formally showed him arrested in the case on July 8.

The lower court initially rejected his bail application on July 27. Subsequently, his legal team petitioned the High Court on August 9, resulting in the interim bail order issued on August 10.

Case details indicate that the charges stem from an incident on August 4, 2024, near the Setu Bhaban in Mohakhali. Protesters moving toward Shahbagh were allegedly attacked with gunfire and cocktails, injuring 25 to 30 people, including a man named Ujjal Miah. Ujjal Miah later filed the case with Banani Police Station under the Attempted Murder and Explosives Act.
