Zahir Uddin Swapan resigns as minister, becomes PM’s political adviser

Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan has resigned from his post and been appointed political adviser to Prime Minister Tarek Rahman.

The Cabinet Division issued two separate notifications on the matter on Saturday.

According to the notification on his resignation, President accepted Swapan’s resignation, which took effect immediately.

In a separate notification, the Cabinet Division appointed Swapan as the Prime Minister’s political adviser under Rules 3B(1) and 3B(2) of the Rules of Business, 1996.

The notification said he would enjoy the rank, salary, allowances and other benefits of a minister while serving as the adviser.
