Prime Minister’s Political Assistant Rashed Khan has alleged that the Awami League and Jamaat-e-Islami have joined hands again, as they did in 1996, to conspire against Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after a programme marking the National Revolution and Solidarity Day in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenaidah on Sunday afternoon.

Rashed alleged that former prime minister Sheikh Hasina had initiated the conspiracy from Delhi, while Jamaat-e-Islami had joined it from within Bangladesh.

He called on people to support the prime minister’s plans, including the introduction of family and agriculture cards, waiving farmers’ loans, tree plantation, and canal and river excavation programmes.

Referring to the July National Charter, he said the government was implementing it in phases after the BNP signed the document. He alleged that forces responsible for killings, enforced disappearances and crossfire incidents had now joined hands.

Rashed urged people to unite against what he described as the Awami League’s “evil forces” and Jamaat-e-Islami.

Earlier, he addressed a rally at the field of Mobarak Ali Secondary School in Kaliganj town and later led a procession marking the day.
