Inter Miami's winless streak extended to four matches as they suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Toronto FC at Chase Stadium in Major League Soccer.
After a goalless first half, rookie Josh Sargent opened the scoring for Toronto FC in the 59th minute. Derrick Etienne Jr. doubled the visitors' lead three minutes later in the 62nd minute to put Toronto in command.
Lionel Messi pulled one back for Inter Miami in the 82nd minute following a pass from Rodrigo De Paul, bringing his season tally to 14 goals. However, the late effort was not enough to avoid defeat.
With the victory, Toronto FC recorded their first-ever away win against Inter Miami. Inter Miami remain second in the Eastern Conference with 39 points from 21 matches.
