Two more prosecution witnesses on Sunday testified in the murder case of scrap trader Lal Chand alias Sohag, who was beaten to death with a concrete block outside Mitford Hospital in Old Dhaka last year.
The witnesses, Sohag’s shop employee Amir Hossain and neighbouring shop employee Mohammad Mithun, testified before Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge-1 Ayesha Akter Mousumi. Seven witnesses have now testified in the case.
Amir told the court that the accused forced Sohag out of his shop and took him towards Gate 3 of Mitford Hospital while beating him. He said Sohag was then attacked with hockey sticks, wooden sticks and stones and eventually died.
Mithun testified about the seizure of CCTV footage from his shop, saying investigators collected the footage on a pen drive and obtained his signature on the seizure list.
Sohag was killed on July 9, 2025, after being attacked with a concrete block outside Mitford Hospital. A video of the incident went viral on social media, triggering widespread outrage.
The trial is underway against 21 accused. Ten are in jail, eight are absconding and three are currently on bail.
