Parents of deceased NEET students to lead protest

Just four weeks ago, the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) called off its protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. The satirical political group had been protesting over the alleged leak of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) question paper, with its main demand being the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Despite that demand being met, the group has now announced a fresh protest.
The CJP said it will hold a “peaceful march” in India’s capital, Delhi, on September 5, alleging that the government has failed to implement its promises.
The Cockroach Janata Party, which began as an Instagram-based satirical group earlier this year, has now become active in political activities as well. In a statement, it said the September 5 march would begin at India Gate and end at the Delhi Police headquarters. The programme has raised concerns about possible renewed tensions or a confrontation with the government.
Alongside the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, the CJP had several other demands. It sought compensation for the families of students who allegedly died by suicide over the NEET question paper leak. The group also demanded assurances from the government that no legal action would be taken against the protesters.
The CJP later called off its protest, saying the government had agreed to fulfil its demands. However, it now alleges that the government has failed to implement the commitments it made on July 25.
The CJP said the September 5 march would be led by the parents of students who died in connection with the NEET controversy.

In its statement, the group said, “As the government has failed to implement the commitments it made on July 25, the CJP is announcing a programme to mobilise the youth on September 5. A peaceful march will be held from India Gate to the Delhi Police headquarters, led by the families of deceased NEET victims and those subjected to police brutality.”
The CJP’s National Executive Committee met on Tuesday (August 25) to review progress in implementing commitments made by the Indian government, as well as BJP- and NDA-ruled state governments. The statement said that on July 25, 2026, several important commitments had been made to the country’s youth. Based on those commitments, the nationwide youth movement had been withdrawn in good faith.
However, committee members who attended the meeting expressed serious doubts about the government’s sincerity in honouring its commitments. They questioned whether the government genuinely intended to fulfil the promises it had made.
The CJP alleged that instead of implementing the commitments, the government was employing various delaying tactics. At times, it was hiding behind technical complications, while at other times, it was avoiding making clear commitments.
The group claimed that India’s Supreme Court had asked the government to provide a list of the FIRs filed against protesters across the country so that they could be cancelled. However, the list has yet to be provided.
The CJP said the government has also refused to give any clear commitment on the matter. It further alleged that the written assurance the government was supposed to provide to the CJP when the protest was withdrawn has also not yet been delivered.
The Cockroach Janata Party has called on large numbers of students, youth organisations and young citizens to join the September 5 march at India Gate.
Last month, Dharmendra Pradhan resigned following weeks of sustained protests by CJP volunteers and students. The movement intensified after Delhi Police baton-charged protesters who were marching towards Parliament. Many protesters were injured in the incident, while several police personnel were also injured in the clashes.
