Prince Shahzada Muhammad Khan Ahmedzai, son of the current Khan of Kalat, has been abducted along with three armed bodyguards in Pakistan’s volatile Balochistan province, police confirmed on Tuesday (October 27).
According to preliminary investigation reports from the Quetta Police Headquarters, a group of armed men intercepted Prince Ahmedzai’s vehicle on Monday (October 26) night along the highway while he was traveling from Khuzdar to Kalat. The gunmen subsequently took the prince and his security detail to an undisclosed location.
Historically, rulers of the former princely state of Kalat were titled the "Khan of Kalat". The Brahui-led princely state formed the historical heartland of modern Balochistan. The current Khan of Kalat, Mir Suleman Dawood Khan, has been living in exile in the United Kingdom and Wales for several years.
The royal family of Kalat holds significant historical status and reverence among the local population for its historical role in shaping Baloch political unity, sovereign identity, and cultural heritage. Police have launched an investigation into the abduction, though no group has claimed responsibility.
